Does anyone know how I could get a conservatory fitted on a tight budget? It would only be small as I have a reasonably small garden and is simply so I've got a bit of extra room, perhaps for utitilies etc. and for somewhere else to sit. Any suggestions helpful in UK only please. Also how long does it take to get permission for such a conservatory? Are they likely to refuse if other houses in the area have them?

  1. i dont think you need permission for a conservatory....but my advice to you would be to wait until you have more available cash to spend on it....its so never a good idea to do a home improvement of this type on a 'tight budget'....there are so many hidden costs that will come up....and thats without taking into account any problems you may uncover along the way that will have to be resolved....if i was you i would wait until i had more money to really do it properly with out worrying hown much i was limited to spending....good luck x

  2. You don't need planning permission for a conservatory - unless it is massive - which yours won't be. It does have to comply with building regulations. The supplier will advise on this as will your friendly Building Inspector at the Council Offices. Your best plan is to decide what size you need. Then visit, or phone as many firms as you have the patience to contact. It's hard going but worth it as they are all fairly desperate due to the credit crunch. Many offer interest free deals which may help with your tight budget. Good hunting.
