  1. using the right gear for the speed. Avoid harsh braking for example look ahead if the traffic lights you are approaching have been on green for a while expect them to change so come off the gas and let the car continue in the gear 4th / 5th towards the lights you will then not be using fuel by maintaining your speed. Check the tyre pressure weekly any tyre below the recommended psi will cause drag on the road thus use more fuel. Finally avoid hash acceleration smooth gear changes all the time.

  2. you can still do 70mph and use less fuel than doing 30 mph...its all down to throtal control and not labouring the engine...

going down hill you can just coast it[in gear but clutch down]...but if you did that in a driving test you would fail as they class it as not being in full control of the car

  3. Really no difference. You have to arrive at the botto of the hill at a controlled speed. Whether you do this with the brakes or by spinning the engine with a closed throttle makes no difference. If you ease off as you approach the hill crest so you are going slower at the top you will waste less energy controlling your speed downhill and save a bit that way, at the cost of a couple of extra minutes in time

  4. Higher gear down hill and break as needed......

  5. Very, very negligable, but higher gear with brakes - but that's not the correct way to drive.

  6. With all modern fuel injection cars, (all cars from 1992 onwards are fuel injection) the system goes into 'over-run' if you keep it in gear with no gas. In over-run, NO fuel is being injected, the motion of the wheels is simply turning the engine over.

Therefore, the best way to save fuel is to travel down a hill, in top gear, without your foot on the accelerator.

  7. This is difficult to be sure about  but the brake pedal is the most expensive one in the car because it converts your forward movement to heat which is lost forever - so you have to burn more fuel to get moving again.

I would say select a gear that just allows you to maintain a safe speed without revving the engine too high.

  8. which gear makes no odds as modern engine cut the fuel when on overun ( ie rpm above 2000 and trottle closed )

So use LOW gear as this will be best for your brakes

  9. a few fuel saving tips when driving

1, ease off gas nice and early and let engine decelerate use the brakes sparingly

2, match gear correctly with speed to avoid engine over working and wasting fuel

3, when at traffic lights or standing traffic dont keep revving engine let the engine idle

4 when travelling down hill try to use 3rd gear this will give you good engine braking and whilst helping to maintain your speed minimising the braking you need to do

5, only use car for really essential journeys

    hope this helps

  10. brake only when needed, when goin down hill -dnt accectrate, or even better put it in netural,

    trust me

    get 450miles to a tank
