Predict which liquid has the highest boiling point based only on vapor pressure data.

pentane (vapor pressure @ 20C = Hg)

methyl acetate (vapor pressure @ 20C = Hg

butyl alcohol (vapor pressure @ 20C = Hg)

propyl chloride (vapor pressure @ 20C = Hg)

ethyl ether (vapor pressure @ 20C = Hg)

Not sure if higher vapor pressure means a lower boiling point

  1. You did not give the VP values, but select the one with the LOWEST.

    VP indicates how readily the molecules can escape from the liquid...the higher, the more easily they will escape (lower BP), because less energy is needed to overcome atm pressure...and vice versa.
