Considering Relocating Family to Providence, RI?

I am considering relocating to Providence area. I would like an affordable neighborhood with good schools for my son (only 2 now). I grew up and live in L.A., but I do not want to raise my son here. Is Providence area good place to raise kids?

Thanks

  1. you are "Right On" with your answer Ryan except you can find good school systems in RI - you don't need to move to Somerset or  mass at all.  Barrington has a good school system for example - or you can always go to a private school/catholic school.  Providence may not be the best place to raise kids but some of the neighboring communities are fine (a 10 minute ride)

  2. Thats a really far jump from where your at. Plus its going to be a pain to move all of your stuff all the way across the country. And you might want to fly with your son over there, because thats a far drive. I would look for some where else

  3. I am currently 16 and I have lived in Providence, RI my whole life. It depends on where you live in Providence to find some nice housing and areas. There is a huge difference between East Side of Providence (clean, rich, quiet) and the West or South Side of Providence (loud, dirty, cheap affordable welfare housing) and we are currently on our 10th murder for the 2008 year. I would consider either living on the East Side of Providence in a nice neighborhood where there are no problems or somewhere close to RI like Somerset, Massachusetts perhaps where my aunt lives. Schooling here isnt that great either. For younger kids the schooling is fine but as you get older, the schooling gets worst, the teachers don't care and only want to get paid, and honestly dont care if you succeed or not.
