Question:

Considering a Move to Canada after College. What city do you recommend?

I'm currently a freshman in High School but I'm looking to the future. I would like to attend college in the states, but after that I'm thinking of making a move to Canada. They have a much lower crime rate. Also, I'm sick of American politics and understand that conservatives in Canada aren't conservative to the same extreme as those in the U.S. Overall, it seems to be very liberal overall, if I'm not mistaken.

The cities I'm looking at right now are: Ottowa, Vancouver, Montreal, Quebec, Calgary, and Toronto. Does anyone have any experience with these cities? Thanks in advance everyone!

  1. I wouldn't recommend Montreal or Quebec if you don't speak French, or aren't highly skilled in a specific area. They are both fantastic cities, but it's hard to find a job unless you offer a unique skill or speak French (both would get you far). This is just my experience though, perhaps other people have had better luck than me.

Other than that brief warning, it really depends on what kind of city you are looking for. Vancouver is gorgeous, mild weather (you'll have to not mind the rain though). Ottawa is a great city, but depending on where you are coming from, might seem a little small to you. It is definitely the smallest out of all the cities you have listed.  Toronto probably has the most opportunity, but I personally find it a little overwhelming - too big, and too flat...that being said, it has some great hidden treasures.

I don't know anything about Calgary. Alberta is the most conservative part of Canada, but even Alberta isn't as conservative as some of the places in the states.

  2. Move to Toronto

    I'm from Toronto

  3. Come to Vancouver mild climate  medicare if you like the out doors start packing  Beaches parks hiking  fishing  sking snowboarding  ( less than  an hour away}  nite life  great people   Go to hellobc  and tourismvancouver  they have free guides to mail you

  4. i reccomend Toronto or Montreal. i live in toronto and have been living here my whole life but i've also visited montreal and the other cities many times.Toronto is a great city. lots to do, great people and easy to find a job... but im not going to lie its expensive like any other big city.

montreal is a great place too. its more of a pary city. so if your looking for a party city montreal is the place for you. dont worry about the french... they do speak english . its also a great city.

Canada is a great country... very beautiful and invitiin. im sure anywhere youchose to live you'll have a great life! Nice choice!

this is still just my opinion!

  5. Toronto or Vancouver. Ive lived all over Canada and Toronto is my fav city. BC is so beautiful, but I like big city life and TO is the place to be for that. And if you dont like Conservatives who vote blindly, dont head out to Alberta. Its the Texas of Canada.

Edit- for the people who say Toronto is unsafe you are just ignorant. We may have shootings and stabbing ya but on a per capita basis which is the way you should judge, Toronto is safer than all large cities in this country. The whole time I have been here I have never had one single incident where as back in the west I was robbed several times. Trust me TO is safe.

  6. What were you planning on taking in college?  It makes a big difference.

  7. I have experience with Toronto, considering I lived there for 18 years. Few things you need to know

    - Toronto is a very expensive city, for a 1 bedroom apartment $1100 is the average price, however if you want a S****y place, they can go as low as $500 for a boarding room.

    - There is a lot of jobs avaible depending on what you major in

    - The bus system in toronto runs 24 hours a day and is $3.75 per fare

    - The subway is decent, theres 2 routes North/South and East/West; The north line starts at Finch Ave, and ends at Union Station in Toronto. The west line begins at Kipling and Egllinton ave, and it goes out to Victoria Ave/401 in Scarborugh.

    - The weather in Toronto; Hot humid summers, the temp can range from 21-34, and the humidex can go up into the mid 40's. The falls can either be cool and wet, or hot/dry. The winters in toronto are a walk in the park compared to other parts of Canada, roughly toronto gets about 4 feet of snow which starts in late December and runs to March.

    - Toronto has it's fair share of crime, don't let the fact it's canada fool you into thinking it's a 100% safe city. Toronto has 60-80 murders a year, lots of shootings/stabbings in the summer months. The downtown, north part of the city, the beaches and central are fairly safe. Avoid Etibocke, Jane/Finch if you can, very rough area, lots of gang wars and killings.

    - Getting around by car can be VERY hectic on weekdays espsically from 5am-9am, and 4:00-8:00pm, due to rush hour commute. Weekends is much easier because well not a lot of traffic.

    - If you dont have a car, theres other ways to travel; TTC (Buses), Subway (runs 6:00am-2:30 am Monday-Sat, 9:00am-1:30 am Sundays). Go Train, Go Buses (there like a greyhound type bus, that takes you to various parts of Toronto, and its cheap too $5.55 round trip).

There's lots of nightlife as in Bars/Resturants and all kinds of varites of food too.

If your paying for college, I honeslty would not recommend Toronto for you, mainly due to the expenses. However if you gots money, then Toronto has a lot to offere.
