I'm primarily concerned with sound quality. Is there any difference between a dock connection vs. the jack?

  1. both of those connection gives stereo sound quality. with docking stations however, you'd just have more playing options, or even remote control capabilities.

take a look at htsp908 from onkyo

    check specs:

  2. Do you have EITHER? If not, then NEITHER....

But DENON amps are the way to go for reliability....Get the mid priced  AVR 3808CI or  AVR3805 for the BEST of the Best.

  3. This depends on whether you want full ipod compatibility or universal compatibility. If you have an ipod to use, the dock will charge it as well, and may let you control it remotely, whereas the input jack will let you use any MP3 player, but without charging or allowing remote control. Personally I would choose the input jack, but that is because I don't own an ipod.
