Question:

Considering contact lenses. A couple of questions?

I wear glasses, but I am going to switch to lenses.

I am also switching opticians.

What is the procedure before receiving contact lenses?

I heard you need an eye test, but I want to just get my old eye test results from my old opticians and bring the result to the new optician.

Also, how long do you usually wait between ordering them and receiving/collecting them?

  1. Your old test results won't matter.  There's no way to get around an eye exam to be fitted for contacts.

The above poster was spot on.  You'll get an eye exam, he'll test your prescription and eye size.  Then you'll get a trial pair.  After trying the trial pair for a few days, you can agree to order a box or two.  This will usually take 1-2 weeks to get and your trial pair will still be good for that time period.

Sorry, but you'll have to pay for an eye exam to get contacts.  There's no way around it.  Then your prescription will be valid for 2 years, until you need a new exam.

  2. You will need a new eye test specifically made for getting contacts, and if the appointment was done for contacts then you have to make sure it was not done more than a year ago.

It usually only takes about a week or two to order them and receive them.

  3. usually the procedure for receiving contact lenses is that they might ask you to bring a prescription that your optometrist may have given you for glasses if you normally glasses. They will then try to match the prescription measurements with a suitable contact lense. Once the trial pair is ordered, they will ask you to come in, try it on, do a couple of eye tests to see if you can see well with them. If they feel that the contact lenses are suited for your eyes they might ask you to wear it for a week or two and they will order the package which may take about a week or two depending on your doctor. hope this helps!

  4. well i just got contacts like 3 weeks ago and they do make you do a eye test but thats only to make sure your vision hasnt changed since the last time you were there.

it doesnt take long at all.

and i only had to wait 3 or 4 days for my contacts to come in the mail.

    hope this helps

    :)

  5. You will have to go to the new optician and have an exam so he can take measurements of your eyes. Also, the perscription for your glasses is not the same as contacts. Once you have the exam, the optician should have a pair of trial contacts for you to take home that day. You will recieve your boxes of contacts that you ordered in about a week.
