We have a great dane, about 2 and a half years old, she tends to be territorial. We had a mutt when we got the great dane and she attacked the mutt so we had to give her to some friends. Now I want an australian shepherd but I'm not sure how the great dane will respond.

  1. You need to fix your dane's behavioural problems before you even think about bringing some other dog into this mix that you're only going to end up getting rid of because you can't control your dane!  Get that dog into obedience and get her temperament problems under control, then consider another dog once she's been socialized and gets along with other dogs.

  2. supervise the intro carefully and slowly allow the new dog into the different parts of your home. and always keep them supervised when together. that's all i got.

  3. Melisa, I love the personality of a australian shepherd. They are so sweet.

  4. She attacked the mutt and you gave the mutt away and kept the aggressive one?  There's not enough information here to know it's territorial vs. dog/animal aggression.

I'd talk to a trainer and learn how to curb this type of behavior around any animal before inviting a new one to live in my home.
