i have a berber skink and i wanted to get another skink to keep it company. i know males should not be put together.

my skink is apparently too young to s*x at this point without probing.

once i were to find out the gender, would it be alright to put two skinks from different breedings together?

anyone have a pair of skinks to relate?

should they be around the same general age?

what is the best gender pair to keep together?

and is it better to keep skinks in pairs or individuals? (do they like to live alone)

  1. its fine i have five skinks in my 150 gallon vivarium

  2. skinks or any reptile doesn`t "need" company. Actually company can cause more problems like fighting over food and territory. You never want to keep two males together in one cage they will fight to the death or serious injury. You can do a male-female pair, or female-female pair. They should be around the same size, sometimes bigger reptiles will pick on a smaller reptile or even eat them if the reptile it is small enough. I would not ever put two different species together because they usually will have different heat, humidity, or lighting requirement and that put which ever one your not meeting the needs of heath at risk. I read at article once about how some reptiles species carry diseases that maybe another reptile species would not be immune to, and by housing them together they can pass those diseases back and forth. Sexing skinks is extremely difficult, there are some physical differences between the sexes, for example, the males normally have a larger, broader head, BUT these methods are not reliable unless you have two known s*x skinks to compare! I would have a vet probe him/her. Probing can be dangerous if done by someone who is not qualified.

  3. If you do get another skink I would suggest a female female pair or a male female pair.  For the female female pair both of your skinks should be around the same size.  Most reptiles do not live all together but if kept in pairs it is not a big deal.  I would highly suggest a female female pair, not a lot of competition and no skink babies!
