Hello, I am presently living in St. John's Newfoundland and My husband is working in Alberta but doesn't get to come home as often as we would like. We are considering moving our small family (3 year old son) to Grand Prairie Alberta and would like to know if anyone could recommend a particular location to look for housing. I would love something in a quite family oriented neighbourhood, a pleasant place for our son to grow up. We are not big partiers so away from any loud noise would be great. Any feedback greatly appreciated, I have no clue about Grand Prairie so will take any info u have. Thanks in advance...

  1. Housing is almost impossible to find because of the work boom that went on in the past few years. Be ready for a 40 year mortgage.

Look into Canmore between Banff and Calgary. I's a quiet little area if you like the mountains, forrest and fresh air.

  2. This really depends on where your husband is working.  Grand Prarie, Peace River, Fort Macmurry are all very expensive.  Canmore is completely crazy, a condo is $750 K.  If your Hubby is working the oil patch pick smaller towns like Vegerville, Toefield, Eckville, Smoky lake, Vermillion.  Find out where he is working and get something close.  Alberta, as all Provinces is very big.  You can spend most of your time off just getting home.

  3. Try Cold Lake, its way up north but housing is at least reasonable, Alberta is a total rip off right now and not worth it IMHO.
