....post political questions in R&S? We're dangerously close to becoming a theocracy, anyway.

  1. I agree deb-zilla ;)

I consider myself a mystic now, but I feel the same way about the fundies as I did as an atheist. Any which way you look at it, their agenda is scarey!

  2. Unlizard,

WOW- Are you really the Zilla??  I am  Registered Democrat and have been since I was 18 years old (33 years ago).  I do not watch either of the National Conventions and I certainly did not want any of these people running for President.  I am very much against Obama and McCain will only get my vote under protest.  My wife and I have been Christians since the late 1980s but we do not intend to change political parties \just because they seem to be more for then against GOD on the surface.  I am careful about my political decisions but I do not believe any more then Liz does that religion has to be involved in our governmental practices.  Have a great week.

    Thanks,

    Eds

    Gnosis,

I am a Fundy but I certainly have no hidden agenda here!

  3. We are not dangerously close to becoming a theocracy.  Believe it or not, most Christians don't want that.  Do you know why?  Because we (I mean most Christians when I say we) value freedom.  We don't want someone elses idea of Christianity forced upon us any more than we want Islam.  We want smaller government, not one that will monitor whether or not we are sinning.

You do know that the "fundies" are a minority of Christians, right?  Most of us just want to live our lives in peace along with everyone else.  So we read the Bible and mention God.  Those things are important to us.

Anyway, ask away.  Again, most people won't care.  It's only a few.

  4. As others have said, I was struck with the absolute audacity of the obvious Christian message being preached at the convention last night.  There is absolutely no one can say that political questions should not be asked in R & S when our country's leadership does this.

  5. Yes, the Republicans were sending out the message: "We are more Christian than they are."

It's going to be rather shocking when they all find out that Jesus preached a different gospel than them. More on my bio.

  6. If we became a theocracy the first thing that would happen would be a lot of rejoicing that we're a country of Christians... then there would be a prompt revolt when people realized that 3/4ths of the other "Christians" in the country hold significantly different beliefs than they do.  The people pushing for a theocracy are largely the fundamentalists and evangelicals, but they make up <15% of the Christians in the united states, protestants make up ~50%, Catholics about ~23%.  Can you feature the reaction of the fundamentalists if say Catholicism became the official and sanctioned religion?  A theocracy isn't in our future.  The fundamentalists and evangelicals have just forgotten the lessons that caused the early pilgrims to come here and the fore fathers to establish the separation of church and state clauses.

  7. I'll never vote for another Republican again -- not as long as they attempt to circumvent the Constitution and continue to pander to the mother of all special interest groups.

  8. Sounds good to me!

    Possible examples from R & S/Politics/P & S:

Spiritually speaking, who is waaaay cuter - Joe Biden, Joe Lieberman or John McCain?????

Or, politically where do the Jonas Bros stand?

  9. The Republican party is doing the same thing the Democrats have already done...fallen morally.  The apathy of the Republicans is ridiculous as they continuously compromise on things like abortion and marriage.  It's simple, do what is right and fight what is wrong.  However, both parties have now instituted the opposite, and we have a word for this digression, it's called 'progress'.

  10. yes we are close arent we?

Just think if creationism somehow gets into public schools it will exponentially r****d our society.

why not about the politics though, most Christians and Republicans dont know what seperation of church and state means anyways

  11. Watching last night, they:

    read the bible out loud

    prayed

mentioned "God" as many time as the word "the"

    referred to "people" as "souls"

Any mention of the Republican National Convention is discussing a nationally televised church service (True Christian (tm)) as far as I'm concerned.

  12. I think it is the perfect place to ask.  I agree 100% with Laptop Jesus sentiment.

Scares the c**p out of me that people could even consider electing a President or Vice President on the single issue of abortion.  This is just the typical Republican pandering to the nut job fringe of our country.

  13. Stinking Democrats are bought off by them too the b******s are taking a page from the oil companies handbook and buying off everyone in both parties . That is why so many are starting to support Nader he has a chance in 4 states now 3 of them key states .

Aww looks like the southern fried crispy Christians are taking offense .

  14. I don't get involved in political rhetoric any more than I absolutely have too.  The last good president that this country had was Abraham Lincoln. He loved his country, the people and the Constitution, and he got assassinated because of it.  This country is run by a circus full of clowns with no ringmaster.

  15. LOL I have to agree with you on that especially with the November elections nearing. We just know the Anti Christ posts will rise alone 'rolls eyes'. I am all for it I find the politics section to tame for me over there anyway.

Did I hit a note with the fundie thumbs down fairy again LOL!.
