They could really stick it to the afl and say "we forfeit" and "no gate money for you from our fans!"

Seriously, I know that some of you are going to tell me all about the "spirit of the game" and "reaching to achieve something" and I do agree with that, but I know that this question will cause one h**l of a stir so I am looking forward to reading your answers!

  1. What was the point of any other teams turning up all season? :)

I just want to see some major upsets in the finals series, not because I dislike the Cats, but because I think it would make things a whole lot more interesting!

  2. Let's see, Collingwood beat Geelong by nearly 100 points. This is not unbeatable. One Kangaroo kicked 8 goals against Geelong. Geelong might be favorites, bu they aren't guranteed to win.

  3. 1998, kangaroos were HUGE favourites going into the grandfinal, and they were up against a team which finishd 5th. most people thought it would be a waste of their time even showing up, and they were even down at half time. but this team that was fifth amazingly got back into the contest, and ended up winning the premiership for the 2nd time in a row! Ten years, later, im hoping for the same result, as they have again finished 5th, and could possibly be up against a team who will be huge favourites. again

  4. Well considering Hawthorn have a WINNING record against Geelong in recent years I think they should show up and try and beat them again. I know the Cats beat them a few weeks ago but it was under a 2 goal margin and the Hawks did keep Geelong to like 10 goals last year in perfect playing conditions and beat them. So BRING IT ON CATTERS.

  5. i know that geelong are unstoppable - but absolutley anything can happen, i mean thats what makes afl so exciting!

  6. Yes Geelong are a great team - there is no doubt about that!! BUT they have been beaten this year! (not often, but they have been) So I guess the other teams will see it as a challenge.

    1) Who (if anyone!) will be good enough to keep Geelong out of the Grand Final?

    2) When/If Geelong make the grand Final, who will be good enough to beat them on the day?

Anything is possible on the day. Geelong could get decimated by injury int he finals series. A horrible flu bug may sweep through the club. It could be discovered that Geelong have been rorting the salary cap. An asteroid may fall from the sky........

  7. collingwood have the wood on geelong

so get your hand off your back

  8. Be a bloody boring day if no one turns up

Nah, seriously, I reckon the Catters are NOT invincible. They have been beaten this year, and on a number of occasions have been pushed.

Obviously whoever plays them in Finals is going to need to lift their game, but there in lies the challenge, hey

The Cats are the team the others need to measure up against

  9. Any team can be beaten....

  10. Since the McIntyre finals system came into effect, these teams were top of the ladder, played the second semifinal, the preliminary final and lost them both.

    Carlton 1941

    North Melbourne 1949

    Geelong 1954

    Collingwood 1969

    Collingwood 1973

    Carlton 1976

    Geelong 1980

    North Melbourne 1983

As Herman Edwards, coach of the Kansas City Chiefs in the NFL gridiron says, "You have to play to win the game". There is no guarantee that Geelong will win it automatically. The above 8 clubs were top of the ladder and didn't even make the GF.
