Is it possible that the Chinese security authorities have succeeded in protecting their country without having to rely on pre-emptive strikes to defend the nation's freedom?

  1. The Chinese Peoples' Liberation Army has been fighting terrorists from the East Turkistan Liberation Front (ETLF) for several years. Those terrorists' home base is in Xinjiang Province in Northwest China. The ETLF recruits from the ethnic Uiger, who are Muslims. That threat is considered to be so important by the Chinese government that they entered into a multinational effort with Russia and several of the former Soviet Central Asian Republics in a pact called the Shanghai Cooperative Organization (SCO).

I assume you are referring to Iraq when you mention pre-emptive strikes. But, the situation with Iraq was a long time in coming. The Iraq Liberation Act was passed by the Congress in 1998. The first source below is a link to the text of that law. And the current military operations in Iraq were authorized by the Congress in October of 2002, but the offensive didn't begin until the following March. The reasons for this operation are contained in the second source below. Begin reading after the first "whereas".

  2. um....if that's what you want to believe so be it....but I think it's a bit naive to think that China hasn't instituted security measures that make Guantanamo look like the "musroom pot" from grade school...

....they act without scrutiny...but just because you don't hear about it doesn't mean it isnt there...

  3. Yeah because crushing protesters with force was NOT a pre-emptive strike to prevent a possible war to decide Tibet's independence. (that was sarcasm right there). They're a Communist country, try looking up Tianamen Square (sp?) on google.cn under Images. Just because something happens doesn't mean we don't know about it.
