Question:

Considering the outstanding achievements of black people, do we still need the NAACP?

Many black people consider the NAACP an insult to their dignity. Society is basically telling black people they are mentally deficiant and need help. It is time to eliminate the NAACP and treat black people equally? But then again, if we do that what will Al Shapeton and Jesse Jackson do for jobs?

  1. Not so long ago, the NAACP's endorsement of Hillary Clinton opened eyes all over the country but the people didn't follow.  I most certainly did not.  Mrs. Clinton - a fine Democrate (wonderful) but not as wonderful and exciting as Barack Obama. I endorsed Barack Obama honestly like most other when the Iowa caucas was a green light.  Thank you Iowaians.  Further, it occurred to me there's an obvious problem.  Our black leadership and the people are at an extreme odds so I asked myself do we really need the NAACP?  Just the mere utterance of these words changes my history as I know it but as hard as it might be it has to be asked.  The answer won't come easy it will be a rude awakening.  Why would an organization filled with the highly educated and well known figures of the black community; elitists so it might fit, confident to place limitations on our success, I'm tired of limitations on the black success and to see our perspective views hidden in comfort zones while the average everyday people of color are racing to the finish line alone.

Are we no longer a community, a family, a group, a tribe?

As we searching for an upgrade and for equality, we are alone. They have shunned us, replaced our neighborhoods, and remove our names from the book of life. I believe, Dr. King would scream in agony to this injustice.  Our leaders are not leading anymore they are following the guidelines to no where.

The time is now, we no longer feel compelled to let others do all the thinking and talking for us and we no longer feel it necessary to be led down the usual path of - take a number, your time will come.  Listen, of course the NAACP has developed a great reputation in America in many fronts but we need more.  It's time for Black America to stand up and speak out with the intent to accomplish this as if it was our right with the intensity of the civil rights movement as if we deserve it and I urge you that movement is still in progress it is not over.

African Americans all over the globe are speaking out and standing for something different we want to be engaged in society - a union for all not to be sustained to our respective places - a palace and not just a home.  We want more and that is the questions we've been asking our youth time and time again...what do they want, why are we so impatient hence the answer has been staring us in the face all along.

Our youth do it best, we can't wait for respect we can't wait for equality, we can't wait for government hand outs and we can't wait for our black leaders we want a Black President.  The irony, endorse Clinton because she is as close as we will get.  It sadened me that our leadership from the NAACP has failed us and all who have stood for now and not later.  With little hope in ourselves settling for the safe road, we'll play it safe and as the people follow we have done our duty but no one asked us what we wanted and if they did, they didn't listen...no one seemed to care.

Settlements have been made upon the African American community; a stain on my life, a stain on my childrens life and a stain in our path.  I want leadership that will envoke and provoke the here and now, listen now, understand now and make the change now.  Normally, this would have been another debacle like the couple before him, Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton but the message was not the same and both lacked excitement and substance relavent to the movement of change you can believe in here and now, the movement to finally skip the bus altogether and get on the freeway to change.  Our constitution rewarded our forefather a tie to wealth and grace but American ignored us and our blood?

Why must black children turn to attitude, use clothing, drugs, precious babies to make us listen that we need leadership today.  Why would an organization with such a great rapport in America and the level of recognition not lead today.

  2. they have been in no need of the naacp for quite a while.they need rid of it and affirmative action to.

  3. I agree--the NAACP is nothing but a hindrance to a color blind society.

  4. First of all, this is a bogus question.  Millions of African Americans still face discrimination every day.  There was a recent study indicating that "ethnic sounding" names on resumes don't get callbacks. Every piece of data shows that AfrAms make less money than whites.  There is no possible statistic that proves AfrAms have achieved parity in American society...except maybe starting five in the NBA.  But the oldest and most effective civil rights organization ought to disband?  Oh, and BTW, your racism is showing.  Neither Al Sharpton nor Jesse Jackson work for the NAACP.  You see, all Black activists aren't the same.  Not only is the NAACP necessary, so is NCLR, the Urban League, the PRLDEF, and a number of other groups associated with protecting the rights of all.

  5. Sure.  We still have people who need the work the organization does.  Anyone who doesn't agree with the NAACP need not support them. What's the problem?

  6. YES - and if you truly knew and understood just what the NAACP represents you wouldn't have to ask such a question.

The little bit of progress that has been made is because of groups like the NAACP.  As for treating people equal - yeah when is that going to start?

  7. NAACP is something that is still needed, regardless if Obama is elected president or not...Why? do we have the Anti-Defamation League, when Gates and Warren Buffet are two of wealthiest and influential people in the world. Not the country but the world
