Consistency has been our strength this season, says Delhi Daredevils head coach http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Eric-Owen-Simons-c56137 – Cricket News Update
The head coach of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Delhi-c780 Daredevils, Eric Simons, said on Monday that “consistency” has been their Success mantra in the ongoing fifth instalment of the Indian Premier League.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/V-Sehwag-c2739-led Delhi Daredevils, who made it to the final four in the first two editions of the lucrative Twenty20 league, finished the 2011 season at the bottom. But the side turned out to be a surprise package this year as they remained the most consistent
franchise in the round-robin league stage of the IPL-V, with a win-loss ratio of 11-5 in 16 outings.
Asked about the mantra for Delhi’s success in crunch matches, Simons said, “One of our strength has been how calm we have been as a unit. I think this is going to be our major strength going into this stage of the tournament.”
“Our team changes have been consistent. We have had solid reasons whenever we have made changes," he added further.
The 50-year-old former South African medium-fast bowler, also credited the team’s victorious journey so far to improved performances from the bowling unit.
"When we left last year, we had a discussion as to how everyone needs to grow and mature as cricketers. From Morne [Morkel] and Irfan [Pathan] to Umesh [Yadav] and Varun [Aaron], everyone has improved, which has helped the team,” said the South African who
also had a stint with the Indian national team as their bowling coach.
It has been reported that a fresh Pune wicket, that has not been used recently, will host the opening game of the knock-out stage between Delhi and Kolkata.
When asked his team’s strategy on Tuesday, the Daredevils head coach said that they will decide only after having a look at the track.
“The main thing for each bowler will be to find their right area," the former South African pacer insisted.
The head coach also warned the side against complacency at the business end of the tournament and urged the players to negotiate the basics effectively in order to finish on the right side of the contest. Simons also confirmed that regular skipper, Virender
Sehwag, who missed the last couple of games due to ill health, will be returning to the squad on Tuesday.
