Consistency is important to perform in the London Olympics 2012, says Dylan Armstrong
Dylan Armstrong, the Canadian Shot Put specialist, said that the only way to land at the London Olympics 2012 title was to observe constant improvement in his performance.
Consistency and improvement in performance is important for every athlete. As far as Armstrong is concerned, the presentation of skills in this year’s Diamond Race and the IAAF World Championships in Athletics speaks volumes about his brilliance.
The 30-year-old athlete, who marked his first personal best of 21.04m in Beijing’s summer Olympics in 2008, is a habitual thrower of over 21m.
Since then, he has persistently improved the outreach of his throws. The Canadian athlete’s current personal best stands at 21.58m.
The shot putter, for whom consistency has become a mantra, his improved performance over the years is a true source of contentment.
Expressing his satisfaction, the ever humble athlete said, “You know I was very pleased with my consistency this year. I trained extremely hard through the winter and obviously through the competitive season. I have to give a lot of credit to my coach. I
now have a world championships medal under my belt and I feel I am set up very well going into London”.
The coach, who played a major role in improving Armstrong’s performance over the field, and to whom the Canadian feels obliged is Dr. Anotoliy Bondarchuk. The athletes Bondarchuk trains affectionately call him Dr. B.
The coach, who was Hammer Throw winner of the 1972 Olympic Championships, despite working anonymously, has only added up to his reputation by training some of the most outstanding athletes in the world.
Among the major contributions and interventions the coach has made in Armstrong’s life are about his diet intakes and the tips which have only contributed towards increasing his commitment and perseverance for standing tall against his rivals.
Now, the Canadian has established himself as a persistent performer, whom the nation can always bank on for a respectable performance.
Armstrong, the veteran athlete, has a number of successes on his profile. He was the gold medal winner of the Commonwealth Games and a prominent performer of the Maple Leaf contest and the Pan American Games.
Talking about how he had to miss out his hunting trip to participate in the Pan Americans, Armstrong said, “I skipped the (hunting) trip to go to Pan Ams. I didn’t go hunting this year but will probably go next year. I am training anyways at that time of
year. It’s close to home, it made sense to me and obviously to get a medal for Canada is also an important thing to look at. Being able to make a presence there and help our team is great”.
