Question:

Consolidate two speakers into one cabinet?

I am looking to build a new speaker cabinet (ie. a wooden box for my actual speaker drivers). However, I want to consolidate these (http://tiny.cc/cnyeS) two speakers into one cabinet.

What I want to know is, will having both woofers in close proximity to each other negatively affect sound quality? I am afraid they will kind of cross each other out if they are too close.

Also, will the tweeters interfere with each other?

  1. Tweeters won't have much of an effect, but the woofers have to be phase matched, and ported with the proper Size Cabinet....and actually isolated by a dual output crossover....

Otherwise it sounds awful....like you put it in a cardboard box.

That's why I prefer the Pre-Builts....they've been designed for dual woofers ....

  2. Having them in close proximity should not negatively effect the speaker's output (as long as they are not wired out of phase, eg one of them is the 'wrong' way round), but a lot of other factors to do with the cabinet may. The size and rigidity of the cabinet have a lot of effect on the final sound of the speaker box.

Why are you looking at combining them? A space issue?
