Constant demands prompt Shane Watson to reconsider opening berth – Cricket News update
Australian all-rounder, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SR-Watson-c2558 feels that the constant demand of playing regular cricket is getting a toll on his body, prompting the all-rounder to reconsider his stance of opening the batting for the Kangaroo outfit.
The 30-year-old has been the national side’s star performer over the past year and half, in which he has opened the innings while also giving valuable contributions with ball.
However, with constant cricket in the next few months, Watto feels that he has to make sure that his body supports the rigors of International Cricket and in view of that thinks that it might be better to move down the order, which will give him a better
chance of playing as an out an out all-rounder for the team.
"My role in the team has changed," http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Watson-c96326 told the Daily Telegraph. "I have additional bowling demands and I do have to consider whether my body will be able to handle it. I need to think about what will be the best for the team, and how to get
the best out of myself, moving ahead.
Australian skipper, Michael Clarke was well aware of the fact and admitted on the recent tour of Sri Lanka that the management will have to rethink the role for their premier player, who is also the vice-captain of the team.
On conditions which suited his seam bowling and his ability to extract reverse swing, Watson bowled 75 overs in the three Test matches against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 - the highest he has bowled all year.
However, with added pressures, his batting performances took a back seat and he failed to score a half-century in his five outings in the sub-continent.
The 30-year-old explosive batsman has had much success while opening the innings for the Kangaroos but feels that he will have to rethink his stance, now that he is bowling regularly.
"I will continue to talk to [captain] http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Clarke-c1978 about it, but having just gone through the Sri Lanka series with that extra workload, this is the time I am thinking about it more," he said.
For now, the player is expected to start upfront when the team play http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 in the first T20, starting October 13.
