Constant neck and shoulder pain?

I have constant pain in my neck, shoulders and shoulder blades, I have been to the doctor and he just told me to take painkillers, however its all i seem to be doing and i know its not good for me, also i now can't get rid of headaches very easily now as my body is so used to taking painkillers. When i say it is constant i really do mean it, I wake up every morning with the pain and as the day progresses it spreads into a really painful headache. Is this stress related, pulled muscles, any ideas on easing the pain without pain relief medication?

  1. do you do a manual job?

i suffer with this and its because I'm a hairdresser, i have to go to the chiropractors once a month with a deep tissue massage as well.

this will help loosen up all your muscles and you will find the headaches will go as all the tension is being relieved. believe it or not its all connected.

  2. It's possible you have some disc problems. As long as I had a great chiropractor I did well, then I moved (long story) and now ten years later have had two back surgeries. One in the neck and one in lower back. Ask about an MRI to see if anything worse than tight muscles are at fault. In my case surgery did not eliminate the problems, but I'm not in killer pain 24/7 now. I do still have chronic pain, just not at the same level.

  3. I would ask the doctor if I could go for an xray, or ask to be sent somewhere for a second opinion. are you on a computer a lot? this won't help,  try a relaxation tape or cd when you go to bed, join a meditation class or yoga,it will help a lot

hope you get an answer good luck.

  4. Wow, this sounds to be a very painful condition. As it is in the neck, shoulders and shoulder blade it could be due to a trapped nerve. If you have never had anything like this before it could be a posture problem. You don't say if you had a knock or an accident before the pain began. Braking hard in a car can cause whiplash injury. Doctors only treat muscular-skeletal problems with anti-inflammatory, such as Ibuprofen or Diclofenac, and pain killers which only resolve part of the problem. As it is in the upper part of your spine I would suggest you visit an Chiropractor - my G.P.'s recommendation at the time. They resolved a back pain problem for me. In the UK it will cost, but you cannot put a price on the cure for pain.

Good luck and hope you are pain free soon.

  5. massages ?

Its a good idea to get one every once in a while if you lift hard, you get funny little knots in the muscle, and someone really has to dig them out.

    You feel amazing afterwards.

request a chick, its kinda weird if you get a dude.

  6. Maybe you could try a chiropractor.  My sister in Seattle had migraines and chronic neck pain and she sees Dr Walia.  His website is  www.drjaswalia.com   Maybe you could email him with questions or get some idea of what they can do.  I would definitely try it before taking medication daily.  Good luck!

  7. Maybe you should go to a doctor that specializes in neck and shoulder pain..if you go to a regular doctor..the person is just going to keep saying the same thing. So when you get the chance just look for a good doctor that specializes in neck and shoulder pain and i guarantee that i will help!!!
