Constantinos Philippou grabs unanimous win over Court McGee in UFC on FX2 – UFC news
In the non-title middleweight bout presented by Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) at its UFC on FX 2 pay-per-view, the Cyprus proud Constantinos Philippou, successfully collected a unanimous win over Court McGee at Allphones Arena situated in Sydney,
Australia.
UFC televised its second show on FX channel and headlined the pay-per-view by the bout between Thiago Alves and Martin Kampmann. The event also witnessed the semi finals of the flyweight championship.
Court, 27, has been in a total 15 brawls and came out victorious in 13. He has collected two of his wins by knockout, seven by submission, and four by decision. The young American brawler was on a continuous eight-bout win streak and had fought in many other
mixed martial art promotions as well.
Infamous as ‘The Crusher’, Court is famous for being a good submission specialist and strives hard to nail his opponent by grabbing them in his powerful submission manoeuvres. His opponent for the Saturday night extravaganza was Constantinos Philippou who
hails from Cyprus but currently resides in America.
Constantinos, 32, has been in a total 12 brawls and came out victorious in nine. He has collected five of his wins by knockout, one by submission, and four by decision. Philippou was on a two-bout win streak and caught media’s attention when he nailed Jorge
Rivera via split decision.
From the very first round Philippou gave Court a genuine tough time and connected large number of punches and kicks in order to secure substantial points. Later on, all of Philippou attacks and strikes were equally replied by Court and at the end of the
first round both men were almost at equal grounds.
In the second round, Court was the one who kicked off things but later on with almost one and a half minute passed, Philippou started to counter each and every strike put forth by McGee. Because of Philippou’s impressive footwork and agility the second round
witnessed Constantinos as a winner.
At the end of the third round, Court was able to understand his opponents fighting style and footwork, the reason why he started connecting more punches and strikes. With the final bell of the last round the three designated judges unanimously gave 29-28
to Constantinos.
The Cypriot is now on a three-bout win streak and has 10 wins in his resume. Court, on the other hand, has received the first loss since 2008 and was unable to defend his long winning streak. The pay-per-view took place on March 3, 2012.
