Constantinos Philippou secures a knockout win over Jared Hamman – UFC 140 Recap
Cypriot mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Jared Hamman fought American MMA fighter Constantinos Philippou at UFC 140. The event, produced by the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), was held on December 10, 2011 in Toronto, Canada.
Philippou emerged victorious in the bout when he defeated Hamman through a knockout in the first round.
Both fighters took a steady and confident stance in the UFC octagon the moment the first round bell rang. Philippou sends some shots but Hamman is able to counter them with some shots of his own. From the start of the bout, both
fighters were in the hunt to get an advantage, which is why they were using their straight left and right punches. The Cypriot MMA fighter, Philippou, took down Hamman after some good combination of punches and strikes.
Hamman, the 29-year-old American MMA fighter got back to his feet but Philippou was again offensive. The Cypriot threw his right hand again which took down Hamman once more in succession. Philippou uses Hamman’s takedown for his
advantage and goes for a submission move, the rear-naked choke. Philippou barely manages to apply the lock as Hamman moved back and away from the hold.
Throughout the bout, Hamman had trouble in dodging Philippou’s right hand punches. In the early minutes of the fight, Hamman was taken down by two of Philippou’s right hand shots. As the fight progressed, Hamman was taken down
a third time by Philippou’s straight right hand shots. Hamman, who has won thirteen professional MMA bouts and lost four, was not in the right frame of mind when he was against Philippou, who won only nine MMA professional bout and lost two. With a lesser
MMA experience under his belt, Philippou was fighting with a mature and focused mindset.
In the fight, when Philippou was able to put Hamman on the mat with his right hand for the fourth time, that was the time when Philippou knew he was closing in for the win. Once Hamman is down Philippou caught the opportunity and
punched his way while being on top of Hamman. The referee had to stop the fight as Philippou had captured Hamman with his punches and with it, won the bout through a knockout.
