Constipation and too much p**p? soy vs regular formula?

When my son was born a month ago I immediately fed him Enfamil with lipil right off the bat. As I had done with my first two, unfortunately this child had the same problem as my first child, he couldn't p**p and when he finally did, it was rock hard and he screamed his eyes out until it passed. With my first son I alternated: two feeding with enfamil low iron and one with. And just repeated the cycle. He pooped a lot easier and more frequently. Now however, apparently they no longer make low iron formula, at least i can't find any. So i tried switching him to a different formula. i should also mention, hes very fussy, and gassy (only when on the enfamil lipil), and spits up a lot. He wouldn't drink enfamil gentilease or any other special formula...so the doctor suggested he may be lactose intolerant, like me. He loves the soy formula, but he poops like ten times a day, sometimes just keeps pushing it out for an hour straight. And it comes out extremely watery. Is that cuz of the formula? Any suggestions to fix this problem would help.

Depending on how long ago you switched him, it could just be the change in formula. He was fairly constipated and now that it's soft, it could take a few days to normalize. If the baby's diapers continue to be runny five days after a formula change, I'd take him the the doctor for a weight check and to be sure that he doesn't need a hypoallergenic formula like Alimentum or Nutramagin. Studies have shown that a good percentage of babies with a milk based formula intolerance often have trouble with soy as well.

THE FIRST INGEDIENT ON THE LACTOSE FREE IS CORN SYRUP..WHEN BABY IS CONSTIPATED THEY TELL YOU TO PUT CORN SYRUP IN THE BOTTLE(KARO SYRUP) ..NO ONE EVER TALKS ABOUT SUGAR INTOLERANCE, MAYBE YOU CAN TRY A 50/50 MIX OF THE SOY AND THE LACTOSE FREE AND SEE HOW THAT WORKS FOR YOU . MY SON IS THE SAME WAY, WE CURRENTLY HAVE HIM ON HALF SOY AND HALF GENTLEASE AND IT SEEMS TO BE WORKING JUST FINE.. 2 OR 3 POOPYS A DAY

OMG! I read your post and I am in the same situation! My son is 3 weeks and on soy and seriously craps 8 times a day! Same texture and color as you described.  His pediatrician said it was the soy formula and that it was nothing to worry about.  Also, ds spits up alot too and they have me putting rice cereal in his bottle to thicken it and the spit up has almost completely stopped.
