Construction of Badminton Association of Malaysia’s Centre of Excellence to begin at year’s end
Construction of the Badminton Association of Malaysia’s (BAM) new Centre of Excellence will begin at the end of this year and all national shuttlers will train in this centre after its completion.
The news was revealed on Tuesday by Ng Chin Chai, secretary of BAM and the manager of the Malaysian team for the 2011 World Championships, after arriving at the University of Bath, where the national team of Malaysia is attending a centralised training camp
before the world meet.
All national shuttlers have been training in different places because BAM does not have its own venue to accommodate athletes. It was quite difficult and hectic for players to train before, as indoor halls also serve for other activities along with badminton.
However, now, national athletes will have a good training place where they will train without any interruption. The construction of the Centre of Excellence will cost BAM an amount of RM 30 million. This gymnasium will be built in Awan Besar, off the Kesas
Highway, Malaysia.
While talking about the building plan for the training centre, Ng Chin said, “Our first building planning meeting took place last week. We intend to build a three-storey building.”
Ng Chin further described the structure of this training centre by saying, “The ground floor will have offices, cafe, kitchen, dining hall, gymnasium and medical centre. On the first level will be the hostel for players. The 18-court hall will be on the
second floor and the BAM office will be at the top level.”
After the completion of the new BAM’s Centre of Excellence, Malaysia’s national shuttlers will have wonderful training facilities as this gymnasium, as it will be equipped with the latest top standard training facilities.
Malaysia’s national shuttlers, who are busy in a training stint at Bath, applauded for this good news as they will have their own training and fitness centre. The news is positive for shuttlers, as now, it would be easier for them to put in extensive efforts
in their practice sessions.
