Construction of Texas Formula 1 circuit begins
It was revealed during the mid-season break of the 2010 Formula 1 season that Tavo Hellmund and Bernie Ecclestone had received the approval for a new US circuit that is expected to become a part of the Formula 1 calendar in 2012.
After a lot of planning, it was decided that the track would be built in Austin, Texas.
Recently, it was revealed that the construction of the new circuit has begun. The organisers of the venue stated that they have started constructing the track on a 970-acre piece of land. Heavy-duty trucks were seen at the southeast Travis County site recently.
Due to the noise and disturbance created by the construction, a few people who live nearby stated that the disturbance is unbearable.
“I lived back here by myself for the past 13 years. I'm looking forward to moving out of here as soon as possible,” said Don Haywood, who lives next to the F1 site.
The track will hold the US Grand Prix from 2012-21. It will cost around $250 million to build. The state’s Major Event Trust Fund has also vowed to help the organisers financially by providing $25 million each year.
The site is near the Austin International Airport around Elroy and McAngus roads. The current location of the construction site is not yet visible but will soon become quite apparent.
It is expected that the race will take place in June 2012. It seems that after the construction of this track, Formula 1 will attract many people living in the region and as a result, the sport will benefit from the profits vitally.
The track’s construction is expected to finish by February 2012. It has been designed by Hermann Tilke and it seems quite unique.
Formula 1 will return to the US after a long time as the last US Grand Prix took place in Indianapolis in 2007.
