Construction question. Can you help?

I live in a condo complex which consists of 26 buildings. Each building has 6 to 8 condos within it. Recently, one of the buildings burned to the ground. The site has been cleared, leaving just the foundation. The plan is to put a brand new building on top of the 25-year old foundation. I don't know much about construction, but this does not sound like a good idea. Any thoughts on this?

  1. I'd think the building inspector will check the integrity of the concrete before construction can start.

  2. All project must be inspected by specialist engineer, example for your concern I think no problem because engineer already test and study about its foundation.

Public building usually requires 70-100 years consist, so this foundation will cause nothing to be re-constructed. Important thing to be worry is

1- What kind of new building they will construct?

2- How many floor they plan?

  3. A 25 y/o foundation isn't like a 25 y/o roof... the foundation could still be in excellent condition if the surrounding ground has remained stable and freeze/thaw hasn't caused serious problems.  As long as it is beefy enough to support the new structure and it's in good shape now, it should be fine.
