Construction work begins at Austin track site
After a lot of hype created by the race organisers in Austin, Texas, the construction work on the track has finally begun. The past few months have seen the United States Grand Prix management claim to build a track that will take the race fans as well as
everybody in FIA by surprise for the perfection it intends to bring in the purpose built Austrian track.
Formula One is ready to move back to United States in 2012, after an interval of two years. The last race the region saw was in 2007, when Lewis Hamilton of McLaren bagged victory during his debut season. The Austrian track is now getting prepared to embrace
the caravan of Formula One cars in the country once again, although in the past years New York has been hosting this Formula One event.
The man who has played a major role in taking the sport back to the region, the promoter, Tavo Hellmund, celebrated the official groundbreaking ceremony at the site last week. Some of the other major promoters and organisers were also present to mark the ceremony.
As several times earlier this year, Hellmund was adamant to begin the construction work before the start of the 2011 season, and hence just after Christmas, the men got ready to begin their work at the site.
The final design of the track was handed to the FIA last month for the approval. After a detailed analysis of the design, FIA asked for some minor changes and now, ultimately it is set to be materialised. Furthermore, some minor administrative hurdles have
also been taken care of efficiently in the past few months so that once the work begins it won't be halted due to any reason.
Like many other contemporary tracks, the major part of designing and layout of the Austrian track has also been done by the world famous, German architect, Hermann Tilke. Although he is now accused by many race fans of repeating his track designs and coming
up with some ‘boring’ tracks in the past few months, yet he has vowed that this one is going to be the best of his work. Some of the other recent tracks designed by him for the Formula One calendar include the Korean, Turkish and Malaysian Circuits. The best
of Tilke’s work so far is considered to be the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi and the Marina Bay Street Circuit in Singapore, which was only concept designed by him.
