  1. We came home from a holiday in Calpe yesterday , there a

loads of hotels and apartments being built  however the workers were mainly Spanish and a few Africans , we were

told there are 100 nationality's registered in the town , many

of whom are working on the beach or doing casual council

labour none have big incomes , take care ..

  2. Same answer applies as I said the other day......Why ask virtually the same question just as two days ago?  The situation here is getting worse not better and there's no easy way to tell you this other than as straightforward as myself and the others who answered two days ago have already said.

Those of us living here can see whats going on, if you think we're wrong and someone will come along and tell you what you want to hear, then you are mistaken, please take note of whats been said already, we DO know what we're talking about

You are joking! The newspapers are full of people advertising their trades and when you call them, they're always available for work....because there isn't any work! Houses are not built in the same way and walls do not get plastered for starters. They tend to spray them with a render finish. The building industry here is heading for a serious decline, with the spanish worrying about their jobs, and no matter where you are or how good you are, the spanish will always put themselves first. You will have to register as self employed, as soon as you do that, you have to begin paying social security at about 260 € a month, whether you have any income or not, you have to pay otherwise they can arrest you, they do not tolerate anyone working on the black anymore especially when its a foreigner doing it!

The social security will cover you and wife and children, but if you are only living with a partner, he/she will not be covered, you will have to pay the same again for them or pay private

  3. I live in Spain (Javea), with my husband.  He is a builder and have found it difficult to get work.  If you are lucky enough to find work, expect to get paid about half of the U.K. rate.  English builders have got a very bad reputation for 'ripping off' the English people.  There is a lot of bad press here at the moment and the local papers are full of the so-called professionals advertising their trades.  It's hard going.  Lots of builders have returned to the U.K. due to work shortage.  Be prepared for the worst.  Having said that.  This is a wonderful part of Spain and we would not return to the U.K. from choice, only from necessity.
