Construction work resumes at 2012 United States Grand Prix venue in Austin, Texas – Formula 1 news
Construction work has been resumed at the 2012 United States Grand Prix venue in Texas, Austin after weeks of delay.
Max Chapman, the project manager confirmed on Tuesday, October 4, 2011 that work has finally been restarted at the construction site after it was halted for weeks.
Amid recent speculations that there might be a possible change in management of the project and worries whether the 300 million dollar project will be completed on time or not, Chapman confirmed to the newspaper Austin American Statesman, “We just started
back today.”
Two heavy equipments were moved to the site through the Circuits of America Tuesday morning and Chapman said that more machinery will be transported this week.
“That's mechanical, electrical, concrete frame, all phases of the project,” Chapman said, “It's the last big piece.”
Recently, it was seen that the construction of buildings had almost come to a stop and there were questions raised whether the project would actually materialise and finish in time before the 2012 US Grand Prix. The construction of the grand stands and the
circuits’ building had not yet begun and this caused a lot of concern.
Chapman has said the construction of the main grandstands should be complete by the end of this week. Right now, he plans to tuck in some additional soil in the 1,100-acre land for which extra funds worth 1 million dollar have been provided.
When the construction had started in December 2010, the workers used to work on-site six days a week. It was only recently that the construction work has almost stopped.
Chapman said, “It (construction) was going great guns for a while. For the last couple of weeks, until we got our bookwork done, it was a trickle, and it slowed almost to a stop the last three or four days.”
Chapman said that the project is once again on track and is confident that the work will be completed as planned.
The 2012 US Grand Prix which was originally scheduled to be held in June, has now been moved to November, which gives the project authorities more time to complete the circuit.
