Question:

Constructive critism on my sketch/shading?

I would like to improve my drawing/sketch skills so genuine, meaningful critique would be much appreciated. I don't know anyone I can actively get feedback from otherwise. Hearing things like "it's fine" or "thats ok" from friends or family aren't too helpful. Im broke for classes.

Don't know if telling you what it is will make your critque less objective? But...umm...seats and handle bar.

I was on the train. You may say the medium was not appropriate but I had nothing else on me.

  1. Looks good. You have a nice style. Keep challenging yourself and you'll only get better.

    Well done.

  2. I think its a good sketch, and the medium is never inappropriate - if you had drawn with a pencil or charcoal you would have a completely different picture and set of marks and this drawing has merits of its own.

You could maybe think about the amount of shading and light you use, practice more densely shaded areas, although it was good to see you left a nice amount of white as drawings can look "grey" easily without these contrasts.

You could also look at the marks you make, as an example how do you make plastic or metal contrast with the fabric of a seat - so just have a play with dots, dashes, cross hatching maybe.

I would suggest possibly choosing subject matter that gives the viewer an idea of what it is, including some easily recognisable elements if the abstract is not what you are aiming for.

But all this said i truly do think this is a good sketch, the marks have a certain liveliness to them and your use of light and shade is good, and the composition of elements works well. :-)

  3. i really like it =]

there's not a lot i could say on this but try thinking about the white spaces ie. the top of the handle bar, everything has got a shade to it even if it is very light one, and give the darker places more shading? this will give you more of a contrast
