Consulate General India-Toronto misplaced my passport which had my visa too!!what do I do now?

I had applied for a police clearance certificate and even after a month when i didn get it i inquired at the embassy and they told me they havent received my passport but I got a confirmation from Canada Post that the Packet was indeed received by the embassy. Its all bull **** people running the embassy, you have to call a thousand times to get through someone to talk to you, and wen i did someone wud tell me that the passport whould be in the embassy and it cant be lost (yea rite!) i wonder how these people even get selected to work for the embassy.Anyone with similar experience? Could someone guide me what should I do next?

If I were you I would go to the Consulate in person and check with one of the Consuls or even the Consul General there. Take your confirmation from Canada Post along with you.
