consumer protection and consumer awareness acts are passed as a measure of government intervention to protect the consumers as they are thought to be vulnerable and could be cheated/exploited if producers could have it their way...

so the government imposes such laws to safeguard their rights in the form of Trade Descriptions Act, according to which if consumers think they are buying genuine leather boots so they should be genuine leather and not some synthetic material...

also if milk is supposed to be 2 liters it would have to be 2, if it were found to be 1.5 then this would mean that the producers are infringing the law and would be penalized for doing so.
