Question:

Contact Lens - Swimming, Putting On,......?

I have a few questions. I currently use acuvue oasis and want to know if it is okay:

1. To sometimes where them more than 12 hours a day (school, homework, etc.)

2. Wore them swimming in a saltwater private pool (minimal chlorine). My eyes felt fine when I came out. No irritation, redness, dryness, or anything. (My instructor didn't let me wear googles much....)

3. I accidentally scratched my eye putting on my contacts one time and will my eye repair itself?

4. Why is it that sometimes I wake up with a little "goo" in my eye? I don't wear them when I sleep at all.....

I wanted to ask my eye doctor but she was not very helpful to me for some reason......

  1. i think their called eye booger's

    every one gets them

  2. 1.  It's okay to wear them longer every once in awhile, but try not to do it too often.  Make sure your lenses are out at least an hour before you go to bed so they have a chance to breathe.  If you'd really like to wear them longer, mention that to your doctor next time you have an eye appointment and you may be approved for some extended wear lenses.

    2.  You should not wear lenses around any pool.  Soft lenses will soak up all the chemicals and any pathogens that are in the water.  Even if they feel fine afterwards, you could get a nasty infection.  If you do a lot of swimming, I suggest getting some prescription goggles or at least wearing goggles over your contacts at all times.  Tell your instructor that the health of your eyes depends on it.

    3.  Most likely you just irritated it a little.  Try to put the contact on (and take it off) from the side of your eye (the white part).  That way you lower your risk of scratching your cornea (front of the eye) which is more serious.

    4.  A little goo (eye boogers, sleep, snow, etc.)  is normal sometimes.  That happens to everyone.  If you notice a lot, though, I'd mention to your doctor.

Sorry your doctor was not too helpful.  Be persistent if you have urgent questions, though.  Hope that helps.  :)
