Contact Lenses Problem?

I'm asian. Yes I have small eyes. I recently got a trial pair. They are hard. How do I get them in easier. Also, I placed an order for hard lenses. I was told they are smaller and easier to get in. But they are uncomfortable.

  1. Whoever told you this about hard contacts is lying.  Go and get yourself a pair of soft contacts - these are like little circles of plastic wrap and are comfortable and really easy to insert.

  2. I would try to get a trial pair of soft lenses.  I have a friend who is also Asian and has very small eyes, but she is able to fit soft lenses in.  Your eyes would have to be quite small for them to not fit in at all.

Hard lenses are smaller and if size is the only problem, then yes, they would be easier to get in than larger soft contacts.  You will have to hold your eye open tightly and place the lens on your cornea (very center of your eye).  Then close your eye slowly and open again.  It should stay on your cornea.

And yes, they are uncomfortable.  It is very annoying to be able to feel something right on your eye, and it may take weeks to months for you to get used to them.  Once you are used to them, though, you may end up really liking them.  Hard lenses generally have better optics than soft lenses (aka clearer vision for you).

I would bring up the option of soft lenses again with your optometrist and make sure there is no way they could be a choice.  Get a second opinion, too, if you are really against the hard lenses.
