On the contact lenses solution bottle, it says "discard 90 days after opening". Will it do any harm if I still use it even though it's already after 90 days?

  1. It shouldn't harm you.. its a saline solution, its not suddenly going to turn into poison. But the chemicals added for preservation and disinfection may be less potent after 90 days. You can use it, but its best to get a fresh one soon. These are your eyes, and you only get one pair! Take the best care of them that you can!

  2. It won't hurt you to use it... but it just loses its effectiveness for killing germs / bacteria for your contacts.  So it is better to still get a new bottle, but it won't kill your eyes... unless your contacts are dirty... or you live in a very dusty area...

  3. put safety first!!

    call your optician

  4. It likely won't do any harm, but it's strongly advisable to get a new bottle. Think of it as a Best Before date on a carton of milk... it's not going to go bad overnight, but I wouldn't chance drinking it!!!

  5. I am not an optometrist , but a long time contact lens wearer(25yrs). I have used hard, gas permeable and soft lenses. If you use hard or  gas permeable lenses, I have never had any contamination issues with the solutions and the bottle generally lasted me six months. If you are a soft contact lens user, the solution is mostly a distilled water solution and I would think more apt to contaminate beyond 90 days. A lot has to do with how you are storing the bottle and the climate you live in, the warmer the more chance of the stuff going bad. The label on the bottle is probably for a worst case scenario for the user. The solution is fairly inexpensive, so any doubts, why take the chance. An eye infection can be very costly with the doctors fees and medications, not to mention you can't wear your lenses.

  6. It shouldn't do any harm but I'll assume the whole bottle would be used up within that time, even less.

Using it beyond that period may see the solution lose its power and it may not perform as well in disinfecting your lenses. They won't print that for no reason.

    Use it while it's fresh!

  7. a bit. it will start to get dry and itchy and wear out

  8. it will prabrbly wont work and make your eyes itchy

  9. It loses it's effectivness and won't disinfect or clean like it should once it gets that old.

So if it doesn't disinfect , you run the risk of getting an infection.

  10. yah, cos the solution in it is already being soiled by the air.
