  1. Another thing that can make the prescriptions different is if you have a mild astigmatism correction in your glasses..

Your glasses for instance could be

OD -2.00 - 0.50 X 90....but in contacts that would be a -.2.25 with no other numbers after it...

Which is another reason why the glasses and contact prescriptions are often different even in the lower powers where the vertex distance has no effect.

  2. The prescriptions are different. The contact prescription is for fitting on your eye and glasses is adjusted for the distance between the eye and where they are positioned on your face. Do not switch prescriptions, that can only be done by a professional. If you change up something on your own you can cause long term damage to your vision.

  3. Mine are slightly different, though I could have them changed to the same if requested (To the strongest) but my optician suggested that as I wear my contacts predominantly, to not worry about my glasses until I change them - I can still see fine and dont drive.

  4. They are generally meant to be different if the rx is over a + or - 4.00.  There is a difference between where glasses sit in front of your face and where the contact lenses sit on the eye.  This is known as vertex distance.  The contact lens prescription is less than glasses if you are near-sighted and more than glasses if you are far-sighted.  If you are having trouble seeing clearly from the contacts, contact the person who prescribed them and ask to be rechecked...
