Contact irritation question??

I wear acuve 2 week contact lenses and for the past few months everyday after like 5 hours i get horrible irritation. but the problem is that I don't feel it and people are like "whoa your eye is red!!" (It's usually only one eye.. idk what causes this) haha so i was wondering what i could do to stop this. even when i get a brand new pair to put in, they still get irritated after a short time. I always wash my hands before putting them in and taking them out and I make sure that I change the solution before i take them out at night. so I was wondering if theres anything more I can do?? and also, since it's summer I've been swimming a lot with my contacts on and it makes my eyes hurt really bad so is there anything i can do for that also? thanks!

  1. First... Stop wearing your contacts.  Call your doctor and they will determine if it is a problem with your contacts or a problem with your eyes.  As odd as it sounds, pain is not always present when a problem is present with the health of your eye.  Eye problems are usually easier to resolve when treatment is started sooner than later.

As far as the swimming question... Stop swimming with your contacts.

  2. I have the same problem and where the same contacts, i hope we get some answers!!!!

  3. Yes I agree with the first answerer. Contact your doctor right away and don't wear the contact if excessive irritation and redness appears as they can scratch your cornea, cause scarring, or other problems. I do not think it's allergy to the solution as you mention that it only affects one eye. Try a different brand with silicone hydrogel as they permit more oxygen into the cornea and reduce the inflammation.

I read from an opthamologist that you can in fact go scuba diving with contacts but they recommend that you don't get in a pool with contacts because of chlorine. If you do go swimming with them on, I would highly suggest you wearing goggles to protect your contacts from 1) getting lost in the water 2) from damage from the chemical in the pool.
