I have lenses already and would like to see further.

I order my lenses online, and yes.. i know i shouldn't change my perscription myself... but, i want to see a bit further and wanted to know if i can just change the power section on my subscription.

at current is it -1.25

if i change it to say -1.50 would that let me see further or does it not work like that?

  1. Knowledge of course!

  2. Power means you got an eye exam from an eye care professional and he or she determined what you need to be looking through to see clearly.  If you need new contacts, get an eye exam.

  3. There are two points that need to be checked:

    First:

Contact lenses is a medical matter, so you were supposed to consult A DOCTOR (MD) to examine your eyes.

Never order contact lenses by internet. Contact lenses are not such bananas that you can buy at any store. Contact lenses is part of a medical affair!

    Second:

There is a myth that says if you increase the dyopter (power)  of your lenses you will see better. This is a lie.

The power of lenses is just like shoes : if they are small , your feet will not enter on them; if they are big, you will fall down.

Seek the help of an ophthalmologist. It is safer!

  4. -1.25 means that you are near sighted (myopic) and you can see clearly without any correction up to about 1m from yourself.

If you over correct yourself you will effectively become far sighted (hyperopic). Far sighted people tend to have tired, sore eyes WITH CLEAR VISION especially if they are under 35.

This means that you may feel you have better eyesight but the pay off is that you will suffer with tiredness more quickly in the day.

If you can't see far enough get the prescription rechecked by your contact lens fitter. If you are still not happy get a second opinion.

P.S. Over here in the UK internet CL sales must be verified with the original prescriber and so changing the prescription yourself is difficult to do. Don't know if it's like that where you are.

  5. no.

yours eyes can only see certain distances depending on how much light is being absorbed by the retina, increasing your lens power could damage your eyes or give you severe migraines, your lens's have been given that power for a reason, if you are still persistent on doing this see your option to see if there is an alternative.
