What do you do if you find yourself in a situation where you don't have access to contact lense solution? You might be spending the night in a motel room, or at a friends house. You cannot sleep in your contact lenses. You cannot put them in tap water. What do you do?

  1. I think that you could use distilled water.  It's different that tap water in that it doesn't have the minerals or chemicals (like chlorine) that tap water has.  This does not mean spring water, as it has the chemicals.  I would just find a clean cup and some distilled water and leave them overnight.  It shouldn't hurt them.  You're only missing the salt and whatever cleaning agents (if any) that are in the cleaning solution.  If possible, you may want to microwave the distilled water first in whatever container you'll be using (I'm thinking of like a coffee mug) until it's at boiling point and let it cool back to room temp (while covered) before putting your lenses in.  This way you can kill any bacteria that's in the cup.

  2. I've used tap water and put it in a cup before.  If you put them back in, which you shouldn't until you've clean them properly with real solution, they are kinda uncomfortable and give a scratchy feeling which can't be worn for the whole day.  Bottled water would be the best.  Depends on your tap water, some peoples tap water when boiled makes a layer of film on top which isn't good for contacts.

  3. You do NOT let your contacts touch tap water. Tap water contains bacteria which can be harmful to the eyes.

The best way would be to carry a clean contacts case (it's not that difficult) with some of the solution in it or at least some saline (saline does not disinfect but can keep the contacts moist). If in saline, make sure you transfer them into the solution ASAP!

  4. If I found myself in this situation, I would have to throw the contacts lenses away. I dont think you have any other option. You could not sleep in them as they are not the type of lenses you can do this with(not enough oxygen in the lens for you to sleep in)and if you did sleep in them, then this could cause you problems.

I always carry my glasses with me, so if I have any problems with my lenses, I can swap.

    Hope this helps.

  5. USE DAILY DISPOSABLES.

    OR

throw away your lenses and put you spectacles on. The best option... trust me this always works.

  6. Throw the lenses away and get a new pair the next day. Don ever leave it in the eyes or in any water.

  7. I was caught in this situation, I boiled a small egg cup of water added a tiny bit of salt let it dissolve and let the water cool...this worked okay for me though make sure the salt dissolves as that was kinda painful haha :) x

  8. No NEVER put them in water. Contact lenses need the solution to clean themselves overnight and water is just going to cause an eye infection or ittiration. What brand are they? some are ok to sleep in for one night only but it does depend on the brand and type of lens. but do not ever put them in anything except the solution!! you can carry contact cases with you that have solution in them or maybe have a spare pair when you go out. i know its the last thing you think of when you go out but its better than ending up with an eye infection.
