Question:

Contact lenses with an astigmatism?

I am going to get an eye exam soon and I would like to get contact lenses. I have an astigmtism and was wondering if this would make it impossible to wear contact lenses. I have heard that contact lenses with an astigmatism are not only very uncomfortable, but very expensive. Please, if anyone has experience with this, I would love some advice. Thank you!

  1. I just went for an eye test today and asked the very same question, and the answer is yes, you can get lenses. The ones my optician gave me to try felt great, unlike the ones I tried 10 years ago which wouldn't stay in place for more than about 30 seconds. The brand she tried me on is Acuvue 1-day wear for astigmatism (I didn't get them yet because she didn't have exactly the right prescription so she's ordering some in for me to try before I buy any). I had them in for about 20 minutes and they were really comfy and my vision was really good. I think they are a little more expensive than normal lenses. Acuvue do a 30-day lens for astigmatism too.

The cost for daily Acuvue astigmatism works out about £30 a month if you wear the lenses every day. A year's supply of the monthly Acuvue astigmatism lenses is about £90-100, so works out cheaper, but you have to buy your chemicals on top of that and remember to clean and look after them properly. Dailies are better if you can't be bothered with all that.

  2. Toric lense are quite comfortable and thery are more xpensive as compare to normal lenses.
