I am curious to find my biological father, im 20 and have never met him and will be marrying next month and changing my name, I would not like to have a relationship with him but make contact at least once before its impossible for him to make contact with me if he ever wanted to in the future. I lost touch with my mother years ago, and cant ask her for helpful information in my search. I do however know he paid child support for a couple years. My mother was awarded child support in the state of California.

is there any way I can find out where he is? who can I contact?

any thoughts or suggestions?

  1. I found my dad, whom I had never met or spoken too, when I was 23.

(The last time my mom spoke or saw him was when she was 8 months pregnant)

Talk about nothing to go on....

Cost me $0, and all I knew was his name and where I thought he was from.

I called the local phone company in that state/town, and they sent me a phone book for free.

I went through the phone book and called everyone with his last name, until I found someone who knew him.

To make a long story short. He drove across the country to meet me two weeks later.

  2. I've read on Answers that you can go to your local Social Security office and offer that you are looking for your father.  If you have any kind of info such as full name, date of birth.  They will be able to tell you if he is alive and can contact him for you with your info for him to contact you.  Then it's up to him.  Not sure if all of this is true, but what the heck?  My bio dad waited for me to contact him.  He was afraid to make the first move.  I was lucky to have contact with his mother as I grew up.  Congrats to you and your new family that you will be starting.  If your dad misses out...that's his loss.  Good luck to you.

  3. I would call the state of California. Explain who you are and what you are trying to do. They might have an address on him. If not try the Attorney Generals office bet they will help.
