  1. If it is just a check up on your contacts, they won't be using the phoropter again , unless you complain about not seeing well.

The check will probably be just with the slit lamp , to see how the lens is moving on your eye, and then check your cornea for abrasions or anything out of the ordinary without the lenses on. Again, just with the slit lamp.

  2. I actually just had my contact lens check-up today and my doc just used the slit lamp.  My doc was very pleased with me.  There are lots of allergens in the air in my area right now and he said that my lens was one of the cleanest he had seen and asked if I was doing anything special to get it that clean.  I was really flattered by that and explained that my eyes are very important to me so I keep my lens clean.

  3. Yes, they use what's called "phoropters" and they check several different things w/ your eyes - they check astigmatism (which is when you eye balls are more football shaped than spherical), base curve, your axis and your power.  They'll give you an eye exam to make sure you're healthy and probably give you a trial pair of lenses to wear for a week and call to see how you like them.  It's really amazing w/ all the technology that's come along what they can do!
