Question:

Contacts overnight. Bad?

Hello... I have the Acuvue Oasis Contacts. Contacts in the past that I have had (ex: Acuvue 2) have dried out quickly and if i slept in them, they would be extremely dry and hard to get out the next morning. These Acuvue Oasis lenses are the two week pair which I am assuming I'm supposed to take out every night. However, I fell asleep in these lenses and it felt completely fine the next morning. They don't dry out ever and my eye doctor said that it's the silicone in the lenses which makes them easy to sleep in. He didn't sound against it, but what is your opinion? I don't want to damage my eyes! And when I say sleep in them, I mean I will sleep in them for a few months straight before I switch lenses...

  1. Nah...stick to the monthly contacts the ones you take out every night...your eyes need to breathe too sometimes.

  2. My mom told me not to sleep in my contacts because the could roll to the back of my head? I don't know..lol.

  3. I do the exact same thing....although we both know that this not good. My optomologist knows that I do this, and has not verbalized that anything "bad" can happen. Just remember to take them out occasionally and wash them thoroughly, even overnight (if possible). Also, rinse your eyes periodically (without the contacts) with eye rinse, in order to decrease infections.

  4. I use regular Acuvue and sleep in mine for a week and then take them out for a night and put the same pair back in for another week. After 2 weeks they get thrown out. Sleeping in them for months is not a good ideal, but a week or 2 won't hurt.

  5. Yolu can not take what other people say into account. Your doctor needs to tell you if it if ok for YOUR eyes to have extended wear lenses. AND he might want to monitor you a bit more. Just becuase a lense is FDA approved for extended wear does not mean that it is the right lense for YOU to wear over night. We have some people in these lenses that the doctor tells it is ok to sleep in, and others he tells not to. WHY? Each person's eyes are different! Each person's eye responds to extended wear differently. Some people's tears will not supply enough oxygen over night, some people's will. There are too many risk factors to take what people in HERE say as gospel truth. You really need the advice of the person that prescribed them for you and follow THEIR directions, becuase they are the one that knows what your eyes are like and have examined them! Just because they felt ok once does not mean that they would, or would not cause long term dammage to your eye. Be safe. Being Sorry SUCKS!  Believe me, we see enough BONE HEADS in our office who thought that they knew better than the doctor and ended up with one of many complications that can happen when contacts are not used as prescribed. Be good to ourself and give your Dr. Office a call and just ASK! They might tell you that it is fine for you to use them overnight! But get it from THEM, not from us in here. It is just too risky! Happy contact lense wearing!

  6. It is not recommended to sleep in any type of lenses even it is silcone ones. But shd be ok if as and when u forget tor emove lenses and goes sleep with it. Oasys has very high DK of about 138 shd be ok for sleeping with it. But not long term

  7. Yeah.. it's completely fine. I have slept in my contacts for like 5 years and my eyes are fine! And Acuvue Oasis makes it easy for your eyes to tear and breathe... :]

  8. if they're 2 weeks; u shouldnt use them for more than that (especially if ur gonna sleep in em -.-)

and ya i wouldnt suggest going to sleep in the contacts. U need to put them in the cleaning solution to get rid of the "protien" build up (protien or something like dat).

So just take the time (like 1 min? mayb less) to get them out every night.

    Hope this helped. :)

  9. If you accidentally fall asleep with them in once in a while you'll probably be okay, but you shouldn't make a habit of it.  You need to take them out and let them disinfect over night in order to maintain your eye health.  You could get a serious eye infection if you leave them in 24/7.
