I want to buy contacts, but I am a glasses wearer so will be first time buying contacts. What are the best contacts to buy, here are some facts about me. **I can't see far away (it's blurry) but I can see close up. ** I heard about protein build up, how bad is that by the way, and would like to avoid that. **I want to wear some contacts that don't make me feel like i'm wearing any contacts at all. ** I have eye allergies, my eyes contantly have cold in them. ** I don't want my eyes to feel dry.

Thank You so much, I look forward to buying some this week so your opinions are very important to me.

  1. Really your doctor is the only one that can tell you what kind of contact is best for you.  Different people find different contacts comfortable than others, so you'll just have to try a few and see what you like.  There should be a brand out there that will feel like you are not wearing anything once you get used to them, but again, you'll just have to try them out.

Protein buildup can be avoided by washing your contacts properly and not overwearing them or sleeping in them (if they are not approved for sleeping).  If you are very concerned about buildup, you can get dailies.  You just wear them for a day and then throw them away.  A new lens each day means no build up (for more than one day anyways).  They are a little more costly, though.  They are also the most hygienic.

Just let your eye doctor know your concerns and he or she will be able to make a good recommendation based on what you want and the condition of your eyes.  Good luck!

  2. You will need to see your eye doctor for a fitting & to get your prescription.  It might take you some time to get the lens that's perfect for you.

If you get daily disposables protein build-up is not really an issue because you are using a clean lens each time.  A  problematic "biofilm" of protein and bacteria can build up on other lens types because they are reused and cleaning solutions are not 100% effective.  This can mean the lens gets gradually less comfortable but also can cause eye infections.

People's experience with the same brand of lens can be very different, that's why it might take a while to find what you like.

daily disposables are probably the best for people with allergies, in that the are less likely to induce an allergic reaction.  Ciba, J&J, Coopervision and B&L all make dailies and www.daysoftlenses.com sells them direct to the public from their web-site.

  3. If you are near-sighted, which is what you describe, Acuvue 2 or Acuvue Oasys are the best.

As far as protein build up, as long as you take care of them as directed, this should most likely never be a problem. And don't wear them for terribly longer than the suggested period. For example, don't wear a two-week lens for 6 months or anything like that. Also, never sleep in your contacts.

As far as eye allergies, make sure you get a good multi-purpose solution. Opti-Free is good, Renu is okay again, and there are a lot of really good store brands out there (my personal favorite comes from Walgreens.)

  4. I really wouldnt get them i had a bad experience with contacts and still have messed up vision from it.
