It's almost been a year since i've started wearing contacts. im 15 (freshman in high school) anyway when i got them last year my eye doctor told me to never swim with them.

however i know many people on swim teams who do and others say that their eye doctor never told them anything when they got them.

any thoughts/ suggestions/ advice?

  1. hey

i suggest asking your optometrist about it.

because, well, he knows all about your eyes, probably better than you do.

and even if you can't use those contacts to swim in, s/he can provide you w/ swimmable contacts.

for tomorrow, just don't use them. because if your eye gets irritated, you won't be able to wear them...:[

  2. Can wear contacts to thw pool if u r using dailies lenses. As ur's is oasis that y the eye doc say cannot wear it to swim.

  3. I've gone swimming with contacts and never had a problem.  However if you're not using goggles and you open your eyes underwater while swimming there's  a chance that it will come off, I dropped my watch at the bottom of the pool and tried to recover it without goggles and one of them came out hehe.  Since you'll be using goggles I would'nt worry about it.

Doctors also say don't shower with contacts, and most people do.  Tap water also contains bacteria.

  4. The official party line is never to swim in them due to the risk of exposure to water-born microbes.  Some are pretty serious and can cause permanent damage.  However, should you find yourself in a body of water with your contacts on, be sure to remove them immediately afterwards and clean/soak them for the intended amount of time.  Keep a second pair on hand to insert for use the rest of the day (assuming you wear disposable).

  5. It's not worth it. If you have to lift your goggles in or near the pool because they fog, or if water gets in, you have to throw your contacts out.

Instead, if you have vision bad enough to warrant it, buy yourself a pair of prescription swimming goggles. Hilco goggles are sold for 37$ at : http://www.sporteyes.com/hilco.htm and come in a good range of prescriptions.

  6. It is best not to wear them while swimming, not only can you lose one but you are exposing your contacts to bacteria and chemicals that are in the pool. If you do wear them use water tight goggles. If the lenses get exposed to the water throw them away.

  7. Follow your doctors advice. You can ask about prescription googles. Seeing that you won't have enough time to get them, you could just either swim without contacts, or swim with them and be really careful, wear goggles over them

  8. When i was swimming in high school i used to take my contacts off .. goggles didnt really help cause there was always some water coming into my eyes and it was really irritating. If you have a very poor sight you have to wear contacts than use goggles but take your solution to school with extra pair of contacts just in case. I'm not a fan of goggles so i just used to take the contacts out.

yeah the girl on top is right buy some goggles with no perscription needed :)
