I am growing 2 cucumber plants in a 5 gallon container. They started out growing very nicely, but now that the plant is producing fruit, all is downhill. The leaves are a light green color and the edges are starting to turn brown. Eventually, the leaves turn brown and dry out. The cukes are half yellow and half green!! They are NOT overripe. At the first sight of a cuke, at about 2-4 inches long, they are half green and half yellowish green and they grow and stay that color. They also taste terrible; very bitter.

I live in Maryland and our summer has been hot and humid, which is normal. I water regulary and use a liquid fertilizer (8-16-8)about every 10 days. What am I doing wrong??

  1. I don't know.  Could be too much water, too little water, or the wrong fertilizer.  Google: Jerry Baker and search his site.
