Container knocks Quantum Racing off the lead on day four of 2011 Audi MedCup Marseille Trophy
Germany’s sailing team, Container, finished the third day three points behind Quantum Racing but it took a 1.5-point lead over the defending champions at the end of the fourth day of 2011 Audi MedCup
Marseille Trophy on Saturday, June 18 at the Vieux Port harbour in Marseille, France.
The day four of 2011 Audi MedCup Marseille Trophy saw a northwesterly breeze blowing from 6 to 13 knots. The breeze however, further intensified to 18 to 21 knots, which is the average stat at Marseille.
The race was a 35 miler east.
Container finished on top in the race as Wieser steered it outstandingly along with tactician, Hamish Pepper, and the navigator, Marc Lagesse. At the end of the day, Quantum racing, who finished first
on day three, crossed the line at sixth place. Their overall consistency in the regatta however, brought them on second place in the end.
While speaking to the media, Container skipper-helm, Markus Wieser said, “I always said we would win a race soon so it is good to get one under our belts. We sailed well with good upwind speed, just
all the time learning to sail the boat better and better.”
On the other hand, Container navigator, South Africa’s Marc Lagesse, told the reporters, “It was great to win. We have had a few second places, so to get a win is great. It was not an easy race at
all. We had a good run, there were veins of pressure and Hamish did a good job of keeping us in the pressure, and we got to the bottom mark in third place and then it was just a long slog home.”
