Question:

Containment system for Cane Corso?

I am wondering what is a good containment system for a Cane Corso? She will mostly be an inside dog but when she does wander to the back yard I want her to be secure. I have 2 12x12 pens in the back of my yard and the rest of the yard is chain link fenced in. I was thinking maybe a hot wire for the whole yard. I already have it inside the pens for my Bull Terriers.

  1. Hot Wire is the only way to go!

Ive used this system for over 8 years and had "0" escapes. My chain link fence on 2 acres is only 4ft tall...these dogs can walk right over it were it not for the wire.

Ive had companion and high-drive corso and they REALLY respect the wire.  My dogo canario will challenge it a few times but backs off eventually.

I recommend running it high and low in your yard..either attached to the fence or on plastic post.  If you have a very large yard, or let your weeds grow up then you should...disconnect the lower wire after a week or so...but leave it in place as a visual deterrence.  This will prevent grass/weeds from grounding your whole system.

I have to walk my fence once a week to make sure nothing is touching and grounding the wire...round-up and weedeating is the way to go here.

In almost a decade of using this system, Ive had no human/dog injuries due to the wire...occasionally, you will have a bird or squirrel fatality...this is the only downside ive found.
