What is an example of centralized control of private enterprise? Isn't it an oxymoron though? If it's centralized, isn't it not private anymore?

  1. Take Russia as an example. Gazprom is the national energy company of Russia, one of the largest in the world. It is also a private enterprize, it is publically traded and it is run by a non political figure as the acting CEO. The president of Russia is the chairman of the company however.

  2. Government contracts comes to mind.  If you have an industry that depends on government contracts to exist, either for the resources required to produce a product, or perhaps is the only purchaser of the product, then their might be centralized control of the private enterprise.

Or perhaps the business is privately owned and financed, and the profits go to the owner, but the terms and conditions under which they are allowed to do business are so tightly controlled as to amount to central control.

An example might be privitization of a service that is only useful to government, lets say private prisons.   No business is allowed to incarcerate a citizen without a governement contract to do so, and that contract might be managed by a central authority, but the prison is run as a private business allowed to operate within certain limits, and the net profits would accrue to the owners of the business.

  3. It depends upon you definitions of centralized and control, and well as the degree of each.  For example. the stock market is a centralized private control of the sale of stock, for publicly held corporations.

Chancery Court is centralized control of the laws that govern businesses.  Business is still private.  The enforcement mechanism is public.
