Question:

Content analysis method?

Hi, I want to do a content analysis as a small part of my undergraduate dissertation. I want to illustrate how sexualised the images of women in men's magazines and Playboy are before going on to conduct a focus group discussing the images.

However, the content analysis procedure looks far more complicated than I anticipated. Would it be too time consuming? Is it impossible as i have no previous experience of the method and won't have long to learn it? How complicated is it? I just wanted it to be quite basic, comparing images in magazines, as the main bulk of my research will involve the focus groups, but I'm nervous if I embark on it it could go horribly wrong lol

Can anyone give me some advice on this method?

  1. Methodological methods... they need to be narrowed down inorder to simplify the writings.... You might wanna make your topic smaller...for instance, Blonde women in magazines, between the ages of 18-20, who appear in more than  one magazine, who have   sexual poses on front covers.... Just an example... but you get the drift....

Other wise, you may find that you will have to much information to cover in a short writing... If this does happen...pick the material that is common and find  out how it narrows itself down, and use it instead of your inital  thesis.......because it will have more usable information.... and a easier write...

    good luck..
