Contested Speeding Tickets

I recently fought a speeding ticket in court and won. The question I have now is; Is that contested ticket in a file somewhere? Or in other words, If i get another ticket and contest that one, does the court or officer know that I was pulled over and contested a ticket before?

  1. This will depend on how records are kept in your state.

Nothing goes on your permanent DMV record unless you have been convicted.

Each court may have its own files that will show that you have been there before.

Each PD may also have its own system. If I stopped you, your name and a record of the summons or warning being issued would be in our computer system forever. It would not be updated to show whether you were convicted or not, it would just show that the summons was issued. If we had a need to know we could cross check it with your DMV record.

Our in-car computer system would show any activity anywhere in the county, regardless of which agency stopped or ticketed you. This covers all summonses and warnings issued. This covers only the previous 12 months.

  2. Congratulations!  Your driving record will be available to the judge, but I seriously doubt that a patrol officer will have access to that information.  The cop can see that you had a previous ticket but not any previous court information.  Your ticket is in a file somewhere and will be accessed if requested.  I wouldn't worry about it too much, though.
